About the Team

Curator and Author

Mary Battle is the history researcher and curator for African Passages, Lowcountry Adaptations. She is a research assistant for the Lowcountry Digital Library at the College of Charleston and a PhD. Candidate in Emory University’s Institute for Liberal Arts.

Project Director

Dr. John White is the project director, lead historian, and editor of African Passages, Lowcountry Adaptations. He is the director of the College of Charleston’s Program in the Carolina Lowcountry and Atlantic World (CLAW) and the project director of the Lowcountry Digital Library (LCDL), which is housed in the College of Charleston’s Addlestone Library.

Web Developer

Heather Gilbert is the web developer for African Passages, Lowcountry Adaptations. She received her MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 2002 and her MLIS from the University of South Carolina in 2011.  Ms. Gilbert is currently the Digital Scholarship Librarian for the College of Charleston and the Project Coordinator for the Lowcountry Digital Library.

Digital Technology Consultant

Tyler Mobley is the digital technology consultant for African Passages, Lowcountry Adaptations. He graduated with his MLIS from the University of South Carolina where he focused his studies on digital libraries and systems.  He is currently a digital services librarian for the Addlestone Library at the College of Charleston.

Fiscal Agent and Budget Supervisor

Angela Flenner is the fiscal agent and budget supervisor for African Passages, Lowcountry Adaptations. She has an MLIS and an MS degree in historic preservation, and is trained in the care and handling of historic documents. Ms. Flenner is currently  a digital services librarian for the Addlestone Library at the College of Charleston.
